Chaos

An area consumed by an unknown black mist, a miasmic substance. The surface of the planet where the Chaos first emerged is covered in this miasma that triggered rapid changes in the environment and ecosystem. Most regions affected by the Chaos become too desolate for life to survive. What life does manage to persist typically suffers mental breakdowns if it possesses intelligence. Inside, phenomena that defy the laws of physics occur frequently, and mutated monsters born of the Chaos roam freely. Though multiple civilizations continue to study the origin of the Chaos through scientific and religious means, no meaningful breakthroughs have been made. The name refers both to the catastrophe and to individual territories overtaken by it. Their extent varies with the spread known as Chaos Bloom: the largest manifestations can engulf a whole planet and affect nearby space and celestial bodies. The Blue Pot, explored by the SS Nightmare on Earth, is one such named Chaos. The danger increases toward the Chaos Core, where contamination is strongest. A Protos guides the expedition through this hostile environment and makes direct contact with the Core to gather its structural information, allowing an anti-Chaos warship to target it during a Chaos Purge.
