Structure of Chaos
Chaos Outskirts: A low-contamination zone. Accessible on foot through the boundary. Agents without a Protos typically operate here.
Monsters with relatively weak combat capabilities are present, though powerful ones from deeper zones occasionally cross over.
Since a prolonged stay here rarely results in critical harm to the human body, some factions have established outposts and operate in this region.
Chaos Interior: A mid-contamination zone. Contains "Singularities" detectable only by a Protos.
Not only are powerful monsters present, but the constantly shifting environment poses additional threats.
High-risk phenomena such as "Chaos Storms" and space-time distortions occur here.
Chaos Core: The origin of the Chaos. A high-contamination zone. Most humans suffer mental breakdowns unless specially trained.
The Chaos Core may be removed only by the structural analysis of the Protos.
This division describes conditions within a Chaos, whatever its overall size. Its geographic extent is measured separately through Chaos Bloom, whose largest manifestations can engulf a planet and influence nearby space. Outskirts, Interior and Core describe the conditions an expedition must cross as it approaches the source.
